# One-on-one/private tutoring FAQ

## Does GregMAT+ offer one-on-one tutoring?

Yes, with

* **Greg:** Book a session with Greg (340, 6.0) to get advice on improving your GRE score. Sessions usually involve diagnosing strengths and weaknesses and forming a "big picture" plan one can use moving forward.
* **Leaderboard**: Book a session with Leaderboard (170 Quant) to get advice on improving your GRE Quant score. Leaderboard is an amazing quant resource and writes many of the questions on the Greg Mat+ platform. Blunt and to-the-point, his sessions focus on quickly working out what's preventing the student from getting the score they want and provide a plan for them to get where they need to be. Students don't tend to need more than a single session with him as a result.
* **Clare**: Clare took the GRE several times and massively improved her score to a 331. She also has significant experience with tutoring from the other side, so she has a natural empathy for students struggling with the GRE. If you're looking for advice on improving your score, especially if you're stuck and have hit a wall, or with constructing a study plan with Clare's insights in mind, book a session with her.
* **Joan**: Book a session with Joan to boost your Verbal and Quant scores. Joan scored 333 (167Q, 166V) on the GRE after just a month of preparation, all while managing a full-time job. With a passion for helping others achieve their best, Joan is dedicated to sharing effective strategies and personalized tips to help you reach your target score.
* **Irina**: Book a session with Irina (170 Verbal, 169 Quant) to master content and strategies to improve your overall score. Irina has more than two decades of experience in education and has been tutoring the GRE for over 9 years, helping hundreds of students to achieve their grad school goals!
* **Jovyn**: Book a session with Jovyn (170 Quant in his first attempt) who is the kind of tutor who listens first and helps you see math more clearly, one idea at a time. With a background in engineering and love for numbers, he’s spent years turning tough problems into simple strategies. His sessions are low-pressure, practical, and built around how you learn best perfect for students who want to build real confidence and finally feel in control of Quant. If you’re tired of memorizing tricks and ready to understand and apply them, Jovyn is your guy. He can be contacted on jovyn@gregmat.com. He does not cover the verbal.
* **Connor**: Connor took the GRE multiple times, learning more about himself than the test each time. After earning a 169Q, he brings a relentless mindset and a toolkit of strategies to help you raise your score and maybe even enjoy a word problem or two. He may be able to provide very limited verbal support but is primarily a quant tutor. He can be contacted on connor@gregmat.com
* **Alina**: Alina (168 Verbal, 164 Quant) began her GRE journey over a decade after undergrad, relearning not just content but how to study effectively. As an experienced educator and neurodivergent learner herself, she understands that improvement comes from building strategies that work with your brain—not against it. For both Verbal and Quant, she specializes in diagnosing the point of breakdown and designing strategies that build independence and confidence. For Verbal, Alina offers deeper content instruction and close reading work, with particular emphasis on logic, tone, and precision. If you’re looking to study smarter, think more clearly under pressure, and leave sessions with tools you can use on your own, book a session with Alina. She can be contacted on alina@gregmat.com
* **Kavi**: Kavi scored 166 in Verbal (96th percentile) on her first GRE attempt and knows that strong scores come from more than just memorizing words. She believes in true hand-holding: whether you book a single class or work with her for weeks, she offers steady, ongoing support so you never feel you’re doing it alone. Kavi loves diagnosing each student’s unique hurdles—whether you’re just starting or already advanced—and finds it deeply satisfying to watch that steady progress click into place. Her sessions focus on hard but rewarding techniques and clear, strategy-driven study paths that keep you moving toward your target score. She primarily tutors Verbal and can provide only very limited Quant help.
* **Dylan**: Dylan scored a 336 (170Q, 166V) after taking the GRE multiple times, improving his Quant by 14 points through careful categorization of his mistakes. Having tested a wide range of strategies himself, he knows what actually moves the needle on both sections. On Verbal Dylan increased his score by 10 points, and he can help you sharpen your reading, reasoning, and approach to the trickier question types. Book a session with Dylan if you need help diagnosing weaknesses and building a plan to lift your score on Quant, Verbal, or both. If you have any questions or need to inquire about a time not listed, please email [dylan@gregmat.com](mailto:dylan@gregmat.com)

|| Note that not all tutors listed above run sessions currently. If you want a session with Leaderboard, you'll need to [email him](mailto:leaderboard@gregmat.com) - he doesn't otherwise tend to make slots available via the portal.

## What tips should one follow for a one-on-one tutoring session?

* Please have a list of questions and/or problems you’ve already attempted and/or completed ready to discuss. Tutoring sessions that are entirely planned by the tutor do not go very well. The tutor might be covering topics you already know or topics that you don’t necessarily need. In addition, when you’ve already attempted the problems, you can readily explain your thought process. This makes it easier to diagnose where you went wrong.
* If you haven't already, please complete the [Google Forms quizzes](https://www.gregmat.com/misc/google-forms-scaled-score-converter) or the [quant adaptive test](https://www.gregmat.com/misc/gre-quant-foundation-test-adaptive).
* If you’ve already taken the GRE and approximately 15 days have elapsed, please have your diagnostic report (from the ETS website) ready to go. This is a document that outlines your specific performance on the test. In essence, it highlights your strengths and weaknesses.
* It’s okay to treat the lesson like a therapy session. I’m obviously not a therapist and don’t purport to be, but it’s good sometimes to let our emotions about the test out. It’s cathartic.
* You don’t have to show your face or anything like that during the meeting. But a good microphone or quiet setting is appreciated.

## How do I reschedule my session?

Email the tutor directly - this should be in your booking email. Or contact us if you can't find their email.

## I'd like to provide feedback on my tutoring session (or I have a complaint)

Please contact support@gregmat.com.

## I would like to become a tutor for GregMAT. What should I do?

|| This does not apply for non-tutoring roles (for which we do not actively hire for, but you may briefly let us know your interest by emailing support@gregmat.com).

Email support@gregmat.com with a brief blurb on why you want to be a tutor and the credentials you have (eg your GRE score), and your score report listing the scores you got from all official tests. We're currently full, so we'll put you in a pool for future consideration. There is no ETA on when slots will reopen, though when they do, we will consider the ones already in the tutor pool first.

A minimum combined score of 325, or a minimum of 168 in quant or verbal, is expected from all applicants (more the better). This score must have been obtained from an official GRE test (so practice tests, no matter the source, do not count). Superscores (taking the best quant and verbal score from different attempts) cannot be used to meet the combined score requirement either. Additional notes:

* Tutors must also be willing to [follow the general house rules](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UEMpzu9oCkdLDzZW68bodVKdicITIRYIv9a5IxSzGCc/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.1k8pw3h7b23b).
* We have a preference for tutors that have already used our platform as a student. The reason is that students often have queries about specific strategies taught on GregMAT (eg the math strategy, used in verbal), and it's easier for tutors if they already have experience using them.
* While prior experience as a tutor is nice to have, this is by no means required.
* Tutors below a 162Q or a 160V will be disadvantaged when we consider your application. The reason is that such candidates will not be allowed to cover both quant and verbal (which we call as *generalists*) and will only be able to tutor the section with their higher score (which we call as *specialists*). Our experience is that specialists, while useful, lack the versatileness that generalists can provide for students.
